Round Rock police spent hours last Tuesday tracking down a prank caller who'd brazenly dialed 911 emergency dispatchers nearly fifty times, each call disconnecting amid peals of laughter.

The prankster turned out to be a 7-year-old asshole boy, who'd happened upon a disconnected cell phone. The aspiring felon was evidently making the calls during class at Bluebonnet Elementary School.

"He was just doing it for fun because he had a cell phone," said Round Rock Police Department spokesman Eric Poteet to the Statesman. "The only number that would work was 911."

More interestingly, dispatchers attempted to triangulate the location of the rogue dialer based on information culled from nearby cell phone relay towers. They were able to narrow it down to a 2-square-mile area, but as the phone's service was disconnected, the caller's exact coordinates weren't known--until the police made a nifty little discovery:

During one of the calls, they heard classroom chatter in the background and decided to check out the elementary school. Once they found the boy, the officers confiscated the phone and called his parents, Poteet said.

The child, unnamed, will not be charged.
