Voting Season Ain’t Over Yet, Austin

amstyleposter.jpgJust when you thought you’d fulfilled your civic duty, along comes AmericanStyle magazine.

The bi-monthly publication that bills itself as the nation’s premier arts lifestyle magazine for enthusiasts, collectors and travelers is holding its annual poll on the nation’s Top 25 American Arts Destinations. Voters can visit the magazine's website and vote for cities in three categories, broken down by size. A paper ballot will also be available in the February 2007 issue of AmericanStyle magazine, on newsstands in late December 2006.

Austin placed 8th among big cities in 2005, but slipped to 11th last year. So get off your butts, Austin and vote for your city as the Top Arts Destination in America. If Austin wins, we all receive a red velvet cupcake. (That’s a lie.)

Last year, some city in New York won the prize in the Big City category for the third consecutive year, while Buffalo took home top prize in the Mid-Sized Cities category. Damn, New York, surf the internet much? Santa Fe climbed 15 spots from its 2005 ranking, winning the No. 1 spot in the Small Cities and Towns category.

Go to the AmericanStyle website and vote for our fair burgh in the big cities category. If you don’t, the terrorists win. As an added bonus, you could win a $500 travel voucher if you vote.

I'd love to vote for Austin as a Top Arts Destination, but more than that I'd love for Austin to actually be a Top Arts Destination. I'll be voting for Chicago, San Fran and Milwaukee. There's not much that Milwaukee does better than Austin, but at art is beats us handily.
