Creativity thrives at the University of Texas Department of Theater and Dance, and they're out to prove it in a big way: next week, they're hosting the fourth biennial Cohen New Works Festival, a seven day whirlwind of original performances, readings, choreography, guest artist panels, and workshops. Founded in 2001 in honor of David Mark Cohen, a UT Professor of Theater and Dance and respected playwright, the Cohen New Works Festival celebrates original works......

You may want to stay home this week and nest (understandable), but we're going to drop a note in your suggestion box anyway. Starting today, the University Co-op will present Robert De Niro in Costume: Selections From the Archive, a showcase of 13 sartorial goodies from the much-touted Harry Ransom Center treasure trove. This short-run exhibit is unique because, as HRC film curator Steve Wilson pointed out, few actors have the foresight or the clout......

Last summer, Robert De Niro donated his extensive film memorabilia collection to the Harry Ransom Center. The donated materials included annotated scripts, notes, correspondence, photographs, research materials, costume items and props from various De Niro films (though sadly, it didn't include the sandwich he was eating while yelling at Stallone in Copland). A good chunk portion of the collection will go on display March 19th, but to gear us up for the exhibition the......

The Young Conservatives of Texas created a national stir when they displayed their ACLU Solstice Barn on the UT campus. This parody of the nativity scene featured parents Gary and Joseph, Nancy Pelosi as an angel, a terrorist as a sheppard and Marx, Lenin and Stalin as the Three Wise Men. They got pictures, too. Students at UT recently held a sit-in at the Flawn Academic Center seeking 24-hour access to computer and study......

A quick sports heads-up: The #7 ranked UT Men's Basketball team faces #17 Oklahoma today in their regular season finale. The game is at the Irwin Center, and can also be seen on CBS beginning at 3pm. Texas can gain the #1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament and set a record for most regular season wins with a victory today. If you are a Longhorn, don't miss it. That is all. Image via......

The University Co-Op is adding another new item in its catalog upgrade. Award-winning sculptor Mark Williamson, a 1991 graduate of UT’s College of Engineering, will cast small bronze replicas of “Alexander Frederick Claire” (Alec), known as the Patron Saint of the College of Engineering at the University of Texas. The statue weighs two pounds and stands about 7 inches tall. The Saint became part of local lore when drunk engineering students absconded with the......

FINALLY! All those well-heeled socialites and spoiled children can now express their love for all things University of Texas with a little bit of style while spending a whole lot more money. After an apparent clamoring from Coach bag-toting, conch-belt-wearing, botoxed alumni customers everywhere, the University Co-Op is now offering items in their new luxury catalog. From the Statesman: Rather than the standard collegiate selection of sweatshirts and pennants, it features items such as......
