You may not know this, but here at the Austinist theatre desk, we work our little fingers to the bone every weekend looking up all the fabulous theatre our fair city has to offer, compiling it into a list, and forwarding it to Austinist's esteemed editor for compilation into the Ist Lists. Sometimes our work is kinda cinchy...say, 15 lines or so. But other times it's a beast. Take this week, for example. This week......

We recently caught the new work Wireless-Less during its run at the Cohen New Works Festival. The play continues its run this weekend—Thursday through Sunday at the Blue Theatre—as a part of Refraction Arts' Fuse Box Festival. Wireless-Less is a trippy, fun fantasy about the human consequences of constant access to technology. Watching this thoroughly enjoyable piece, we were reminded somewhat of David Cronenberg’s movies, in which humans are always brushing up against tech......

First off, we'll get right to the point: Salvage Vanguard Theater has knocked another one out of the park. Everything about Caridad Svich's Thrush: A Play with Songs is spot on. Set design, lighting design, direction, acting, music...all of the elements are executed in top form. In short, Thrush is about a naive refugee, Minerva (Elizabeth Wakehouse), who stumbles through a barren, war-torn countryside. Along the way she encounters other refugees and soldiers who......

As if the folks at Salvage Vanguard Theater didn't have enough going on.... In the midst of touring The Intergalactic Nemesis, winning a Best of Austin award, and birthin' babies, the intrepid SVTers are also producing the world premiere of Caridad Svich's Thrush: A Play with Songs, opening tonight at 8pm. Earlier this week, our own Matt Wright snapped a few photos of rehearsals.......

As happens this time every year, the last few months have been pretty slow at Austinist Theatre Central. The 2005-2006 season wrapped by late August or so, including the shorter, simpler summer productions and workshops that seem to be mainstays of so many local theatre companies. Finally the '06-'07 season is well planned and underway, and while we're looking forward to some exciting upcoming productions, we're also in the mood to look back at......

And they're off.... The nominations for this year's B. Iden Payne Awards have been announced. We received 'em this morning, straight from the offices of the Austin Circle of Theatres. If you want to get in on the action, ballots will be available starting this Thursday, September 21, at ACoT (701 Tillery Street) & AusTIX (kiosk at the Austin Visitors Center, 209 E. 6th Street). You must be an ACoT member to vote, but......

When a group of fantastic actors gets together, the expectations are high. St Idiot Collective’s roster reads like an all star team, with nearly every performer a theatre scene big-wig or rising star. While their talents were clearly visible in the collective’s first production, Vaudeville Vanya, on the whole the show was a misfire. Vaudeville Vanya is an adaptation of Uncle Vanya – one of Anton Chekov’s most storied serio-comedies about educated narcissists trying......

Last summer, Salvage Vanguard (the bacchanalistas behind the Dionysium) produced a live performance of "The Intergalactic Nemesis: Twin Infinity," the last in a trilogy of science-fiction radio serials. The run enjoyed considerable success, and as such they've decided to put on the entire trilogy this June. But tonight - and tonight only - they're doing a special performance of the first part at The Hideout Theatre. From their press release: Follow Pulitzer-Prize winning reporter......
