Murder Mystery Out On Lake Buchanan?
Way back in September 2006, we reported that some guy on a Jet Ski stumbled across a concrete-filled barrel with human remains spilling out of it out on Lake Buchanan. Nine months later, the identity of these remains has now been revealed.
According to the results of DNA tests performed at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, the mysterious remains belong to one Charles Maynard Wyatt, age 62, of Travis County. Mr. Wyatt had been reported missing way back in August of 1990 by one of his friends. Burnet County investigators are saying that Wyatt seems to have died from a blow to the face. According to investigators, motive for death has yet to be determined.
Obviously, we're not crime experts, but it seems likely that, given the facts heretofore revealed by the Burnet County Sheriff's Office, there's a lot more going on in this case than meets the eye. This story could very well develop into a Twin Peaks-style small-town murder mystery out in the Hill Country.
Cue creepy lounge music, multiple plot layers and FBI agent who gets nowhere with the local police, who resent him for his big-city suit and college-boy know-it-all attitude.
Or not, since this case is purely within Texas borders and therefore won't invoke federal jurisdiction and the involvement of the FBI. Okay, sorry, we done geeking out now (too much CSI, folks).
We're keeping our magnifying glass on this one, readers. Stay tuned.
