Austinist Interviews SXSW: The Hourly Radio

sxsw_interviews.jpg

Dallas’ The Hourly Radio has garnered some top-notch buzz lately. Rolling Stone and Filter magazines both named History Will Never Hold Me in recent “Top 5” listings, while their guitar-centric, post new-wave musical stylings are a hit in NYC, among other cities. We, too, have enjoyed their Texas shows, be it last year’s non-SXSW the rich girls are weeping bash during, well, SXSW, or their opening gig for Stellastarr* at the Parish a few years back. Everyone gets their Hourly Radio fix at Austinist’s free day show at the Mohawk on the 14th.

If you could open for any artist living or dead, in any era of their career, who would it be?

The Depeche Mode/Primal Scream tour after which both bands and crew had to check into rehab.

Is SXSW fun or business

We always have fun at SXSW ... the music business is busy, but we wouldn't call it a business. (We may have stole that quote from someone).

What’s your mode of transportation for the week going to be?

We'll be getting to Austin in our 12 passenger van w/ trailer and once there we'll be carted around by those lovely gypsy bike taxis.

What album of 2006 can you not leave at home? All time?

Of 2006, probably Mew ... of all time Verve's Urban Hymns.

Who are you most excited to see play at SXSW?

Mew and Damon Albarn's new band. (The Good, The Bad and The Queen)

Any previous trips to Austin? Betcha something fun happened-share it please.

After checking into our hotel we headed down to the bar for a drink and saw a poorly disguised Ray Romano sipping Sea Breeze. We offered to buy him another round and one thing led to another. We soon found ourselves hours later up in his hotel room for an evening of women, drugs and other unmentionables. What is even crazier is that in the morning ... oh, wait ... that was Boston.

The Hourly Radio plays SXSW at the Mohawk at our swell party on the 14th, and Elysium later that evening at 8pm.
