Save Las Manitas: A Concert of Voices

Concert_of_Voices_ad.jpg

Save Las Manitas Concert of Voices
Friday, February 23
La Zona Rosa

Grupo Fantasma, Alejandro Escovedo, Patti Griffin, James McMurtry, Ruben Ramos, and Jimmy Dale Gilmore will be playing. Hosted by Jaston Williams and Joe Sears of Greater Tuna. $5 fajita plate before the show. Tickets are $25 and are available at Waterloo, Runtex and www.gettix.net.

Escuelita del Alma is an awesome asset for the people who live and work downtown. The Marriott project would be much easier to swallow if new space for Escuelita was built. We're thinking a five story structure on Congress as a transition between the historic buildings and the new hotel (the nicest of which should face Congress). Ground level retail (maybe a baby store) with Esquelita above it. Rooftop playground. See below for an image.

To Cynthia and Lidia Pérez and City Council: Keep the alley! The alley running parallel to congress between second and this divides this block in half and makes it much more manageable and functional. Mega-blocks are a modern (suburban) mistake. This block is going to have enough of those. Fight to keep the alley there. You are going to be glad to have it.

Where is your color option for adding back in Las Manitas?

This Marriott idea is so terribly ugly and is a pathetic example of a city losing it's grip on the importance of even minor historical significant structures...were such a young city that places like Las Manitas are indeed historical. You lose your history, and you lose your soul.

Do you have a rent house I can move into for the rest of my life? I was born here, if that helps.
