Taco Update: Torchy's Tacos
In our continuing quest for taco excellence, we bring you the following update. Because, well, we just can't keep quiet. We feel very rude hiding Torchy's from you anymore. Located on South First, Torchy's Tacos is serving up some mighty fine tacos. We'd even agree with their slogan.
Their special "Damn Good" tacos are their best offerings. Try the Ranch Hand steak and eggs taco and you won't leave hungry: it's a great mix of fajita meat, eggs, and cheese. The carnitas and barbacoa are tender and full of flavor, as well. If you're feeling the veggie vibe, you'll almost certainly love the Veggie Confetti taco, made of eggs, chilis, and cheese on a flour tortilla. The only thing we can say we haven't loved is their corn tortilla, as it tends to be a bit dry and thick for our taste.
Check them out for lunch or dinner -- they'll also deliver to downtown locations. Tell 'em that Austinist sent ya.

The Veggie Confetti is one of the best taco creations I've had in Austin. Especially with bacon.
I agree about the corn tortillas.. every time I decide to try them, they always seem to fall apart before I get a chance to unwrap it. I'm usually a corn tortilla kind of guy, but I think Torchy's tacos are best with flour.
The only other thing is that I wish they had a salsa like Tacodeli's spicy green doña.
I haven't had the Tacodeli green mole. How is it?
Tacodeli's dona (how do you type a tilde?) is like spicy heaven on earth. It's largely blended jalapenos I think - like creamy jalapeno without the cream. Spiciness varies from day to day, though.
tacodeli's dona is delightful. very spicy, great for prying open the sinus cavity. i believe it is a bit of avocado that gives it the creaminess. and no, it's not a mole.

I repeat there is no avocado in the Dona sauce from Tacodeli! Its all natural no additives! I can tell you the recipe but I would have to kill you! Keep supporting local business! Best lunch taco by far oh yeah... Tacoshack sucks
