It’s been a bad week or so for Austin parents. First one sues MySpace after her daughter went on a date with a man who eventually molested her. Now, this.
A Cedar Park mother took her three year-old child to a party in north Austin over the weekend and apparently lost site of her kid for a few minutes. Harmless, right? In the company of other responsible adults, right? Not so much.
The poor child found a roll of Sweettarts, and, as any three year-old would, he ate a few. Nine to be exact. The problem was, these weren’t just run-of-the-mill Sweettarts. They were laced with LSD. He ate nine.
We have taken know people who have taken plenty of acid in our their day. Just hearing this story, in addition to breaking our hearts, gave us them terrible flashbacks. The thought of a three year-old’s brain trying to process that much lysergic is horrifying beyond words.
The friend throwing the party noticed what had happened, and the mother, Ashli Rene Freas of Cedar Park, took the child home immediately. Where she proceeded to call…friends! Not an ambulance or Poison Control. Friends! They came over and after observing the kid trip for an hour THEY finally called 911. The friends.
The child was rushed to the hospital where the mother was eventually arrested. We are beside ourselves about this entire incident. The reckless disregard for her child’s safety is unconscionable. If you are going to expose your kid to a bunch of partying adults, you should know exactly what kinda party it is. We are not doctors but we can imagine the effects of this drug experience will linger with the child for a lifetime.

Was anyone at the South Congress HEB last night? I must have seen about 3 or 4 different kids, little kids, with blackeyes. One of them kept complaining that his brother peed on him in the bathroom... again. Pretty deplorable stuff. What's up with no good parenting in Austin? What can we do for these little guys and gals?
If you ever need to report sexual or physical abuse occurring to a child, or think abuse might be occurring, please do not hesitate to call the Child Protective Services hotline at 1-800-254-5400. I personally am shocked at the judgemental attitude of the previous comments. As a strong supporter of a woman's right to choose, i believe that the legislature should keeps its laws off my body. And my 3 year-old's too. If a child chooses to expand his mind, and a mother chooses to let him, it's none of the fascist's business at the center for child protection.
Furthermore, I have been looking for acid forever, and how is the damn 3 year old able to find it??? still, really sad, i hope there is no permanent trauma :-(
Whatever happened to hiring a babysitter?

heheh. laissez les bon temps roulet, mon ami! and to think, i wasted all those years in my early childhood reading books and NOT taking acid. i could be twice the mental giant that i am today. life is full of regrets. i can only hope that our young friend here makes the most of this educational opportunity.
set the controls for the heart of the sun.
we did not want to put this in the original post becuase sympathy for the kid should be the main point here, but apparently this was on the myspace page (now removed) of the mother (things were obvously not good for her all the way around):
”...you need to take the pic of MY son off of your page. YOu have not done shit for him in the last 3 years not even a phone call at x-mas or on his b-day. YOu can not say you are a proud parent… you have 3 kids and dont talk to any of them or there mothers. You only care about getting some. Take the picture of [child's name] off your page. YOu dont have parental rights to him”
The actual phone number to report abuse and neglect is 800-252-5400. We also have a website where you can report: txabusehotline.org
something similar happened to a friend of mine when he was a kid. now he's just really cranky.

wow... that was trippy.
my friend works as a nurse at Brackenridge and actually took care of the kid who ate the 9 acid laced Sweet Tarts when he came in. poor kid :(
yet another case of parents who shouldn't have been allowed to procreate in the first place.
This is what happens when parents don't talk to their children about the dangers of drugs.

Are you fucking kidding me??? Have you met a three year old in your life? Have you been three?
This "mother" should go to years and years of therapy and learn how to look after her kid. THat is NOT responsible parenting, and even if 'baby daddy' don't take care of his kids, that means she has to pull double the weight. My mom was a partier. But when she found out she was knocked up at 19 with no baby daddy around, she quit her bullshit and got her life together in order to raise her kids. I never was exposed to that kind of bullshit. Even people were drinking with my mom we were promptly sent to our rooms to play. You just don't allow your kids to be exposed to that kind of stuff. It's wrong. Especially letting your three old wonder around a house where everyone is on acid. Even if he didn't eat the LSD, what if some sick, whacked out fuck was tripping and decided he wanted to fuck with the kid. I'm all about women's rights, etc etc, yada yada, but I'm more in favor of protecting those who have no voice, namely a three year old child.

although in fairly bad taste, considering the severity of the situation, i think the person who left that comment was kiddin
