
- A piece of birdshot in Harry Whittington's heart caused a mild heart attack yesterday; he's in stable condition. The Austin Lawyer was shot in a hunting accident this weekend by his friend Dick Cheney.
- The Texas Longhorns were honored at the White House yesterday.
- Governor Rick Perry is posing a fitness challenge to Texans; the Texas Round-Up is a program being implemented to help Texans make healthier lifestyle choices. More locally, Mayor Will Wynn wants to make Austin "one of the healthiest cities in America." He's planning to run the Freescale Marathon if re-elected to another term.
- We can come up with a lot of bad names to call the mega-big-box-retailer Wal-Mart. Their scheming now includes the expansion of an existing location off of Ben White that was surprisingly approved by the Austin Environmental Board.
- Homebuilders and residents are at odds about the size of homes being built in existing neighborhoods. Opinions and pleas from both sides were heard in front of City Council last night; another opportunity to discuss the issue will be held at the council meeting on Thursday.
