It's Gonna Be a Cool Summer at the Paramount

Today, the Paramount Theatre kicks off its annual Summer Film Series. This 30-year tradition showcases more than 60 classic films as you’ve probably never seen them before, including new prints, director’s cuts, the original “Batman” serial (unfortunately not starring Christian Bale, but still entirely watchable), and so much more! It’s a film connoiseur’s dream is what it is.

You can purchase a FLIX-TIX book, which gives you 10 admissions for $45 (save $25!). Five bucks of the price go toward the Paramount’s Preservation Fund, so you can feel good about supporting the ongoing upkeep of Austin’s beautiful and historic Paramount Theatre.

The line-up for this summer is just incredible. We’re feeling positively giddy about it, especially when we see that they’re showing This is Spinal Tap, a couple of Hitchcock films, The Philadelphia Story, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. We’re total Monty Python geeks, and it has nothing to do with our huge crush on Michael Palin. Really.

The summer officially begins tonight at 7:30pm with Top Hat (1935), the Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers classic, which will dazzle you with impeccable dance numbers and a flawless score by Irving Berlin.

So forget the crap showing at your local movie megaplex (why do those places always smell like feet?). Instead, surround yourself with the plushness of the Paramount and some quality films from a time when Hollywood wasn't so damn annoying.
